Filming Schedule

This will be the filming schedule of our team to help organize a plan and finish the shooting.

Self-reflection

The schedule will remind us about this project and help us set a time to shoot the scenes. Having a set schedule will help us stay organized. Although it wasn’t very useful in the end, as not all of us could comply with the scheduled times, it did help us remember when and where to film. The schedule made it less flexible for us to follow completely, as we students have difficulty managing our time and finding free moments. We used an unfamiliar technology that took time for us to adapt to as we never learned how to use it and how easy it is, but we did eventually using the help of a fellow classmate and from youtube.

Location scout & risk assessment

This blog post will include my location scout and risk assessment.

Location 1:

Location 1

Location:

Regents Secondary School (classrooms)

Events in the scene:

Interview with Bagus's Friends, happy pictures of Bagus
and his crush

Pros of location:

Easy to access, classrooms aren't loud, clean, good lighting

Cons of location:

Some people might go into the classrooms unexpectedly, and not all classrooms are empty (teacher might be present)

Alternatives:

Someone's living room

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

The projector might fall off randomly and it could hit someone.

Evaluate risks:

If the projector hit someone in the head, it would cause
brain injury and it could lead to memory loss.

Control measures:

We would prevent it by not touching the projector.

Responsibility:

We all will be in charge of the control measures to keep
everyone safe.

Time frame:

We would do the control measure before we shoot the interviews
in the classroom.

Other notes:

Location 2

Location 2

Location:

My friend’s house

Events in the scene:

Establishing shot of the house and Interviews will be done here

Pros of location:

The house has a dark surrounding with many windows that could be used to create a sense of suspense

Cons of location:

The whole family lives there so loud noises aren’t recommended.

Alternatives:

Another friend's house

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

Slippery floors, the stairs are steep and the second floor is quite high up

Evaluate risks:

People can get injured

Control measures:

Constant checkups just in case and warnings before we enter

Responsibility:

We will all be responsible for ourselves and since it's our friend’s house then is mostly on him to keep the location safe

Time frame:

All the time since we'll be in a group and if somebody gets injured, medicine and other first aid kit can be found in the house

Other notes:

Location 3

Location 3

Location:

Kebun Raya Bedugul

Events in the scene:

Pictures of Bagus with the girl being happy and then, he

will confess to the girl and get rejected

Pros of location:

It is a beautiful location that is suited for a confession to take place. The location is vast so we could shoot many variations of the scene and take advantage of the different surrounding backgrounds (use the leaves for a more romantic mood).

Cons of location:

It is quite crowded at some period and it could potentially ruin the shot since some tourists might be in it. Also, Kebun Raya is far away so if we took a shot that we don't like, we would have to go to Kebun Raya again to reshoot.

Alternatives:

Renon Park

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

A big branch might fall off from one of the tall

trees and hit someone's head

Evaluate risks:

The concussion could lead to a brain injury and potentially causing

losing consciousness

Control measures:

Stay away from unstable-looking trees/tree branches.

Responsibility:

Everyone is in charge of the control measures since everyone is

responsible for their own safety. We could also remind each other of potential risks that might happen around the environment.

Time frame:

31st Agust 2024

Other notes:

Location 4

Location 4

Location:

Klungkung Red Bridge

Events in the scene:

Bagus got out of the car with the girl and he got rejected by her

Pros of location:

Looks unique and aesthetic which it's a suitable location for a
confession to take place. It's an open and wide space for us to easily record the scene.

Cons of location:

Far from our homes the way there is very time-consuming, we also went past big, high-speed traffic roads in a very dangerous way. Due to the earthquake threats in Indonesia recently, filming near the bridge will be very dangerous.

Alternatives:

Kebun Raya

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

Possible crash on the road, possible

earthquakes and would create a tsunami that would greatly impact us

since it's close to the shore.

Evaluate risks:

A crash could happen and the recording

would have to stop

Control measures:

We prevent these from happening by not recording in busy places.

Responsibility:

We would all be in charge of the control measures and be responsible

for our own safety. If anyone is doing something dangerous,

we could remind them and discourage them from doing it.

Time frame:

1st September 2024

Other notes:

Self-reflection:

The risk assessment we finished helped us a lot with deciding the right location for recording our scenes. Although risk and potential hazards can hurt us and the actors we took responsibility by being extra careful and aware to avoid doing something dangerous. The only potential hazard we encountered was the long drive to our fourth location which took us a while to plan when we were all available to record the scene.

Storyboard

This will be the storyboard made by my teammate Saka for my documentary project

Shot 1-4

Shot 5-8

Shot 9-12

Shot 13-16

Shot 17-20

Shot 21-22

Self-reflection:

Creating a storyboard helped us a lot as we got to create the scenes using the storyboard we already made which made it more planned and structured as all we needed to do was follow the storyboard. Doing the storyboard first is quite challenging as it isn't as flexible as making the storyboard after recording the scenes. But the storyboard did turn out useful as we utilised it and recorded each scene according to the storyboard. My role was to help my friend imagine what the scene would look like. Giving feedback and things to improve on so we can have a clear storyboard to follow. The storyboard took some time as the four of us had different views on how it should look so we ended up cramming it all up in one day. We learned the lesson to not delay and procrastinate anything especially storyboard when doing another media project.

Script

This is the script for my documentary project finalised by Bagus my teammate.

Self-reflection:
This script was done by my teammate Bagus but I played a role to help finalised and give feedback to his script. I helped by giving sentences the actors should say and what camera angles can be used to convey the meaning we want the audience to encode. My teammate focusing on the script is very beneficial to me and my teammates as we could focus on other things instead. The script was finally approved by all of us which took some time as all of us had different opinions. I also researched about the typeface that could be used for the script along with he help of the other members to find the right typeface.

Statement of intent (Documentary project)

This is my statement of intent for my documentary project

Statement of Intent

Genre /Sub-genre

Murder, mystery, kidnapping

Reason: It’s because it's easier for us to get inspiration as most of our research is about murder and kidnapping documentaries.

Topic

Bagus is a diligent student who has a crush on a girl and has a close relationship with this woman they often study together. Weeks and months pass by, Bagus confessed, though he was rejected.  Out of frustration, he stalks the girl to keep track of her whereabouts. One day, the girl went missing, as did Bagus. As time flies, friends become concerned. They decided to check on them but the girl died, and so did he.

Primary Target Audience

Demographic

17+

Indonesia and foreigners

Reason

Our reason for 17+-year-old people is because there will presumably be sensitivity and violence, this will automatically make this documentary not fit for children or teenagers, and sensitive topics include explicit violence. Murder and abduction

We target Indonesians as this documentary is set in Indonesia with typical Southeast Asian-looking people as actors. The background will be Indonesian villages. We decided to do this to bring up the rare and taboo topic of rape and kidnapping in Indonesia. In which they are usually censored by the Indonesian public. (subvert the norms)

Also, we target foreigners by adding English subtitles so English speakers can enjoy the documentary.

Psychographic

Have an interest in crime

People who like mystery

Reason

Since we are making a crime documentary, it is logical to target people who have an interest in crime and mystery.

Secondary Target Audience

People who enjoy school scandals or documentaries involving students

Reason

People above the age of 17 can enjoy the crime documentaries such as adults who have an interest in school scandals.

Message (Dominant Reading)

Stay away from people like Bagus

Reason

This is because this crime is to inform people (especially women) to avoid people like Bagus and to stay safe.

Characters

Friends of Bagus and Bagus,

Representations (groups, places, events)

The girl is represented as the victim of a boy’s vengeance for the rejection. The rejection shows the intrusive thoughts of people not getting what they want.

Our documentary will show how a certain event in life can completely change the personality of a person. Our documentary will give the changes that happen to our male actor how he disappears and gives himself a new life. A life with regret, violence, and shame.

Audience interaction / Engagement

The documentary presents the actor badly as our main actor plots revenge after the rejection. This might be relatable to some audiences as rejection is common nowadays in high school. The main character got into an unexpected situation where he had to deal with rejection but took it wrong and did something he shouldn’t have done.

Self Reflection:

The statement of intent helped us figure out representations and the targetted audience of our documentary project. With a more detailed niche that has both psychographics and demographics included. This table helped my team and I figure out the effectiveness of what should be in the documentary and what should not. We were faced with several challenges while completing the table as there were several things we didn't think of and while completing this document we still weren't sure what would be in our documentary which made answering several of these questions much more time-consuming.
